We hired Amy Higgins of Hagan Architects to add an addition (master suite) to our 1930s craftsman bungalow. From start to finish, Amy, and everyone at Hagan, were so easy to work with- very professional, easy to work with, responsive and really understood what we wanted to do. They worked with us to bring down the cost of the project when it was initially above what we wanted to spend. Amy was incredibly patient and detailed with us as first time renovators and answered all of our questions. Can't recommend Hagan Architects enough! The addition looks amazing and in fact, looks like it was always there.

We worked with Hagan Architects to plan the renovation of our 1920s-era bungalow, adding a second story and re-designing the first floor to make better use of the existing space. We interviewed several firms, and I can echo the comments of other reviewers that Tim Hagan and Amy Higgins understood what we wanted better than anyone else we talked to. We needed an architect that (a) could create a design that would double the square footage of our home while staying true to the look and feel of the other homes in our neighborhood, and (b) had the technical expertise to plan every detail from the bottom up. Throughout the process, Hagan Architects provided invaluable guidance that enabled us to make well-informed and confident choices. We were on a very tight budget, which they took into consideration in every element of the design, proposing solutions that were both elegant and cost effective. I am nothing less than thrilled with the home they created for us, and it came in on budget. They were delightful to work with. I highly recommend them to anyone.

It was a pleasure working with Tim and his team, from start to finish! We had an unusual project—renovating the first floor of our 1929 craftsman bungalow to update but maintain the original character, and digging down three feet to create a basement. This would be daunting for some but Hagan Architects took it all in stride, coming up with lots of creative solutions, including customs built-ins for a snare drum collection. All of this while maintaining cost and timeline considerations. We would highly recommend this team!

I HIGHLY recommend Hagan Architects to anyone looking for architectural designs that are creative, tailored specifically for them, and mindful of budgetary constraints - all delivered in a professional and personable manner. We started with small ideas for renovating a house built in 1982 that had never been updated. Tim took time to get to know us and understand how we wanted to live in our home. Then, he starting drawing. He envisioned things, including creative uses of limited spaces, that we could never have dreamed of. When we decided on a plan, he helped us choose a builder, and then worked tirelessly with that builder to bring our plans to life. When either structural or budgetary issues arose, Tim helped us find more workable solutions without giving us the feeling that we were settling for something less. On the business side, Tim was a consummate businessman with timely billings that were detailed and very reasonable for the work delivered. In the end, we left the "small ideas" behind and gutted our 1982 house. Tim was the catalyst that helped us have our dream home....and a dream it is.

One of the things we really loved about working with Tim Hagan was the fact that he started the project by first getting to know my husband and me. He paid VERY close attention to our interests, our likes and dislikes, and how we decorated and used the space in our home. So, when he brought us his preliminary thoughts and drawings -- we quickly discovered that every idea he presented was connected to some very specific aspect of what he had learned about us. It was an amazing process! On top of all that, Tim's ideas were fresh and exciting. Our 1961 contemporary ranch now sports a wall of Mondrian-inspired windows that extends across nearly the entire back of the house, giving us a beautiful view of our wooded backyard. Tim also created a "floating wall" in the center of our home that acts as a backdrop to our dining room. We have a beautiful new kitchen with windows where most homes have backsplash. Our master bath now has a clerestory window above the shower and tons of storage. Aside from the great designs and creative ideas, Tim is just very down to earth and a lot of fun to work with. We highly recommend him!

Tim had consulted worth us on several projects--from craftsman new construction to modern second story addition--and everytime Tim has provided gracious, elegant solutions to our complicated, ugly problems. He designs with an efficiency of space, eliminating unnecessary hallways, awkward corners, and non-functional spaces. I'd add the word 'elegant' to the pithy, understated tagline: thoughtful, detailed solutions. I'd use him again and again and again!

We hired Hagan Architects because we felt their ability to understand our design vision far surpassed all the other firms we interviewed. Tim and his staff met with us both onsite and in their office to discuss every aspect of our project. Having a 1924 Craftsman Bungalow that had become both functionally obsolete and much too small for our growing family, the design challenge was to make the house large enough for us, but also make it look as if it hadn't been renovated. That challenge was met and exceeded. I believe the constant compliments from people passing by like; "we purposely walk by your house every day just to see the changes", "your house is beautiful!, we love it", and "your house is beautiful, who was your architect?" are a testament to the overall success of the design and the workmanship. We couldn't be happier with our "new" house, and with Hagan Architects.

Tim did a fantastic job designing a renovation and addition for our Grant Park home. He was easy to work with, and came up with creative solutions for the logistical challenges presented by our lot (and by the ever-changing permitting process). Tim also recommended a great general contractor with whom we have been very pleased. Our renovated home is just what we always hoped it would be.

Tim Hagan took the smoldering remains of our burnt house and created something beautiful out of the ashes. He didn't flinch when he saw what little we had to work with, and, in a stress-filled year, managed to gently mold a beautiful house out of ashes and water. My assessment of Hagan Architects: totally professional, deeply caring, amazingly talented, delightfully innovative.
